1. On July 15, the Saudis and several other Arab states at an emergency Arab League meeting condemned Hizbullah by name for its “unexpected, inappropriate and irresponsible acts.” On July 17, Jordan's King Abdullah warned against “adventures that do not serve Arab interests.”
   15 जुलाई को सउदी तथा अन्य अरब राज्यों ने अरब लीग की आपात बैठक आयोजित की और हिजबुल्लाह का नाम लेकर उसके अनपेक्षित, असंगत और अनुत्तरदायित्वपूर्ण कार्य के लिये उसकी निन्दा की. 17 जुलाई को जार्डन के राजा अब्दुल्लाह ने चेतावनी दी कि ऐसे किसी रोमांच से बचने की आवश्यकता है जो अरब हित में नहीं है.
2. • Unilateral Israeli withdrawal : Peace Now, a powerful Israeli organization, promotes the slogan, “Leave the Settlements, Return to Ourselves” - meaning a complete withdrawal to the 1967 border lines. (This is somewhat along the lines of the plan promoted by Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and just passed by the Arab League.)
   इजरायल की एकतरफा वापसी : इजरायल के एक शक्तिशाली संगठन ने एक नारे को आगे बढाया है, “ बस्तियों को छोडो अपने में वापस आओ” अर्थात 1967 की सीमा रेखा से पूरी तरह वापसी । ( यह उसी योजना के समान है जिसे कि सउदी राजकुमार अब्दुल्लाह ने आगे बढाया था और अभी हाल में अरब लीग ने पारित किया है)

Iraqi precedents (1991, 2003) suggest it is politically worth the inconvenience to win endorsement from international organizations such as the United Nations , the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Arab League, the African Union, or even the Organization of the Islamic Conference . Would endorsement by the African Union (logo above) make a difference?

5. Forces that strengthen Muslim unity make up a second, shorter list: the pilgrimage to Mecca, classical Arabic, modern communications, and the Arab League. A mention of the hajj leads to one dramatically wrong prediction: “The scarcity of shipping during the war reduced the usual horde to about 20,000-30,000 per year. While the numbers will probably increase now, they are not likely to reach their former proportions.” (In fact, the pilgrimage breaks new attendance records practically every year and now numbers three million pilgrims , many times more than ever was the case before 1946.)

6. In contrast, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia rejected Obama's appeal for CBMs vis-à-vis Israel during a presidential visit in early June. Rozen reports that the Saudi monarch “launched a tirade during Obama's long meeting in Riyadh.” It went so badly that Saudi officials “later apologized to the U.S. president for the king's behavior.” Likewise, Egypt's foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit asked rhetorically, “Is normalization possible as long as the building in settlements continues? The answer is no, of course.” Arab League chief Amr Moussa deemed it “impossible to speak of normalization when Israel rejects any significant measure.” Negative responses notwithstanding, the involvement of the Arab states that can offer benefits to Israel should limit the harm inflicted by do-gooding diplomatic “peace processors.”
   इसके विपरीत सउदी अरब के राजा अब्दुल्लाह ने ओबामा की विश्वास विस्तार की अपील को जून के आरम्भ में राष्ट्रपति की यात्रा के दौरान निरस्त कर दिया | रोजेन के अनुसार सउदी राजा ने “ ओबामा के साथ रियाद में लंबी बातचीत में विरोधी स्वर अपनाया” | यह व्यवहार इताना बुरा था की बाद में सउदी अधिकारियों ने अपने राजा के व्यवहार के लिए अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति से क्षमा याचना की| इसी प्रकार मिस्र के विदेश मंत्री अहमद अबुल गीट ने पूछ ही डाला , “ क्या बस्तियों के रहते सामान्य सम्बन्ध सम्भव है? इसका उत्तर है नहीं निश्चय ही” | अरब लीग के प्रमुख अमर मूसा ने माना, “ जब इजरायल किसी भी महत्वपूर्ण कदम को निरस्त करता है तो ऐसे में संबंधों के सामान्य होने के बात करना असम्भव है”
